Nick qualified from Guy’s Hospital in 1982 with honours in Pharmacology.
Following qualification Nick returned to Exeter working part-time for 6 months at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to further his education before joining the practice full time on the retirement of his grandfather Arden Dee Shapland.
He is a long standing member of the British Dental Association and more recently the Devon Independent Practitioners’ Group. Nick is a past chairman of the Exeter Section of the BDA and served on the committee for a number of years.
Nick enjoys all aspects of clinical dentistry with a keen interest in preventative care and has attended numerous postgraduate courses in cosmetic and general dentistry using the latest materials and techniques.
He has a genuine interest in getting to know people and building long lasting trusting relationships with patients. He believes that this is an important part of providing excellent patient care in dentistry.
In his spare time Nick enjoys following sport with his three sons including supporting Exeter Chiefs, playing his guitar, walking his dog and photography.

Anastasios graduated from the Dental School in Athens in 2008 and has worked in general dentistry in Scotland since 2010. He gained the Diploma in Primary Care Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and in 2014 was awarded a distinction in his Master Degree in Periodontics from Glasgow.
Anastasios moved to Devon in 2014 and also works part time as an Academic Clinical Fellow at the Peninsula Dental School in Plymouth. He combines providing high quality general dentistry at our practice with research projects and teaching dentists of the future.
Anastasios is dedicated to promoting oral health, focusing on the prevention and treatment of gum disease and has published several dental articles on gum disease. He is passionate about helping his patients achieve a healthy smile and improve their dental and general health.
Anastasios has a warm and friendly manner and believes patients should be treated gently and with kindness. He likes to give his patients time and build trusting relationships with them.
His wealth of knowledge and current research post put him at the ‘cutting edge’ of providing the most up to date preventative dentistry.
When he has any spare time, Anastasios likes to walk by the sea, socialise and travel.

Ansa qualified from de’Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore-Pakistan in 2005. She relocated to England the same year and worked as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery first in Manchester and then in Exeter for a total of 3 years. During this time Ansa obtained her MFDS qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She then fulfilled her ambition and embarked on Orthodontic specialty training based at Bristol dental school and Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. Ansa obtained her Membership in Orthodontics from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2011. She also completed her Doctorate in Dental Surgery the same year from the University of Bristol. Ansa was awarded the UTG prize by the British Orthodontic Society for overall best postgraduate research performance and the Harry Orton medal by Bristol dental school for excellence in research. Ansa was awarded a research grant by the British Orthodontic Society Foundation in 2012 to continue her patient centered research on children and young adults with developmentally absent teeth. Ansa has completed her Intercollegiate Fellowship in Orthodontics through the Royal College and is currently an Orthodontic Consultant at the Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust. She is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate dental students and has completed her postgraduate certificate in Medical Education. Ansa is on the GDC specialist list for Orthodontics. She is an Honorary Treasurer for the Exeter BDA, an active member and past treasurer for Peninsula Orthodontic Study Group, and member of the British Orthodontic Society. She has many publications in peer review journals to her credit.
Ansa is experienced in orthodontic treatment of complex cases and has a special interest in treating patients with missing teeth and patients requiring jaw surgery. She uses a variety of appliances including lingual braces, tooth coloured braces and clear aligners. Ansa has a calm and gentle manner and patient satisfaction is at the heart of her practice.
Outside of work Ansa is a busy mum to 3 young children, she also loves entertaining and exploring the beautiful Devon countryside.
Ali is Nick’s wife and supports Nick with the practice management.
She has a background in the healthcare sector and further education in psychology. She also has a certificate in business & finance and has attended numerous post-graduate courses in dental practice management to ensure that the practice continues to keep ‘up to date’ and compliant with all current regulations. She continues to strive for the highest standards for patients and was instrumental in guiding the practice through the rigorous Denplan Excel Accreditation.
Ali is very much part of the caring family ethos of the practice and is passionate about the delivery of high standards of customer care and getting to know patients and their individual needs.
In her spare time Ali enjoys spending time with her family, walking her dog, visiting the gym and baking cakes. She also likes to visit the theatre, read and loves the London culture scene!

Michelle qualified with a BSc degree in Oral Health Sciences in 2006, enabling her to not only provide dental hygiene but dental therapy as well. Michelle has extensive experience having worked in private dentistry in Manchester for over 10 years before moving to Devon in 2017.
Michelle is very keen on ‘preventative dentistry’ and her main aim is to work with patients to improve their oral health. She is passionate about making people feel comfortable and at ease when visiting the dentist and building their confidence.
Michelle works alongside Nick, Anastasios and Ansa providing a range of dental treatments and has also completed further training in Facial Aesthetics, including the use of fillers and wrinkle reducing injections.
In her spare time, Michelle enjoys cycling, keeping fit or spending time with her fiancé and their cocker spaniel – Ralph.

Laura qualified as a dental nurse whilst training with us and studying at Exeter College. Laura works mainly with Anastasios but is also our lead hygienist nurse as she is a real whizz on the computer. She has a quiet and calm nature but is very caring and supportive with patients.
In her spare time, Laura loves to go to the gym and regularly runs and takes part in charity runs. She also enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Jess joined the team in the summer of 2018 and is working in practice and studying at Exeter College for her ‘Dental Nurse’ qualification. Jess works mainly with Nick and has proved herself to be an extremely efficient and calm nurse and very supportive with patients. She has previously worked in customer facing roles and really enjoys meeting people. In her spare time Jess loves to spend time with her family and supporting her two younger brothers who play rugby. Jess also loves to keep active and alongside walking her dog ‘Gracie’, she is currently training for cross-fit competitions.

Naomi qualified in 1994 as a dental nurse and has since completed additional qualifications in dental radiography.
Naomi has extensive experience in general dental surgeries and specialist orthodontic practice as well as working with the Consultant Orthodontists at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital for many years. Naomi loves to see patients complete their teeth straightening treatment and ‘smile’ with confidence once their treatment is complete. She is a kind and empathetic nurse who enjoys spending time with her little boy Robbie, who keeps her busy when she isn’t working.

Agata trained and worked in Peterborough before moving to Devon in 2014. She works with both of our dentists and also in the Orthodontic and Oral Surgery Department at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. Agata enjoys the variety of dental procedures and the many skills she has gained from both areas of her work.
Agata is a very calm nurse with a gentle manner and shows great empathy towards patients.
In her spare time Agata likes travelling both abroad and discovering beautiful places in Devon & Cornwall. She likes live music, sport, running and she’s committed to leading a healthy lifestyle.

Andrew Taylor has over 30 years experience as a Dental Technician specialising in Prosthetics. He has created and managed a prestigious denture department within a Dental Laboratory for more than 25 years and has worked with some of the top dentists and specialists in the UK, completing work to the highest quality and expectation. Andrew has also worked with Ivoclar Vivadent, a leading Dental Company as an instructor, training technicians and surgeons and as an opinion leader in removable prosthodontics.
Andrew studied through the George Brown College in Canada and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons London with a diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, he was presented with the outstanding Achievement Award in Clinical Dental Technology 2007 on the George Brown course.
